Get your measurements together first.

The free printable desk checklist explains what to measure and gives you a blank worksheet. Keep it beside you while replacing the planner’s example values.

How to measure a small desk setup

  1. Measure the usable desktop. Use its width and depth. Subtract space occupied by a shelf, speaker, or other fixed item.
  2. Measure each footprint. For the monitor, measure the base on the desktop rather than the screen. Include a wrist rest in the keyboard depth if you use one.
  3. Reserve mouse movement room. If your desk mat also goes under your keyboard, enter only the mouse portion so you do not count the same area twice.
  4. Leave room for reaching and cables. The gap is your choice. Check the physical setup before buying or moving equipment.

What this calculator checks

The monitor base and accessory space sit in the back row; the keyboard and mouse space sit in the front row. Required width is the wider row plus a gap at each desk edge. Required depth is the deeper item in each row, plus the front, back, and middle gaps.

This is one possible arrangement using flat rectangles. It does not model screen overhang, monitor height, cable bends, your posture, or every possible layout. A layout that does not fit here may work with a different arrangement. Use the glasses holder size and fit guide to compare published heights; the accessory-space example does not establish a holder’s dimensions.
